LOS ANGELES — A man was charged today with trying to kidnap a 15-year-old girl walking home from school in Torrance.
Deputy District Attorney Felipe Vela said Jhony Adalberto Granados-Lopez, 28, of Los Angeles faces one count each of attempted kidnapping and possession of child or youth pornography.
Granados-Lopez pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return for a preliminary hearing setting on June 14.
On May 22, Granados-Lopez allegedly tried to force the teen victim into his vehicle at knife point near Spencer Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, the prosecutor said. The girl managed to break loose and get help, the prosecutor added.
If convicted as charged, Granados-Lopez faces a possible maximum sentence of more than five years in state prison. Bail is set at $150,000.
