NYPD releases body cam videos from East Village shooting outside bodega

The NYPD has released body camera footage showing the moment officers shot a former Wall Street trader because they mistakenly thought he was charging them with a knife.

Peyman Bahadoran, 55, was paralyzed after the 6:30 a.m. June 4 confrontation at the Healthy Green Gourmet deli at Third Ave. and E. 10th St. near Union Square. He was walking his dog, carrying a large Defender Xtreme serrated hunting knife in a sheath on his right side when he followed two officers, Jillian Suarez and Melissa Brown, into the deli.

Bahadoran pulled out the knife and brandished it as he menaced the officers, but he was unarmed when he was shot, security camera and body camera footage shows. He placed the blade on the counter as he paid for a pack of cigarettes, and the deli clerk grabbed it before he could retrieve it.

Before he walked out, he held both empty hands in the air as the officers trained their weapons on him. Continue Reading
