Fired Atlanta officer who killed Rayshard Brooks is charged with felony murder

The fired Atlanta police officer who shot and killed Rayshard Brooks at a Wendy’s restaurant last week was charged on Wednesday with 11 counts, including felony murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Fulton County district attorney announced the charges at a news conference and said warrants were issued for the former officer, Garrett Rolfe, and his partner, Officer Devin Brosnan, who faces three charges.

The death of Brooks sparked renewed protests against police brutality and racial injustice in Atlanta and resulted in the resignation of the city’s police chief, Erika Shields.
