Stepmother confesses to setting 5-year-old stepdaughter’s face on fire as punishment

DALLAS — A woman was arrested for allegedly setting her 5-year-old stepdaughter’s face on fire as a punishment for yelling.

The Grand Prairie Police Department said Dalia Jimenez, 20, was arrested after she confessed to setting her 5-year-old stepdaughter’s face on fire. Police said they responded to a report May 13 of a child that had been burned.

Jimenez originally told officers that the injury was a result of an accident while lighting a candle. Jimenez ultimately confessed to detectives that she intentionally poured rubbing alcohol on the 5-year-old girl’s face and used a lighter to set her face on fire because she was punishing her stepdaughter for yelling.

Police said the girl’s father was not present at the time of the injury and is not considered a suspect.

Child Protective Services removed the girl and her younger sibling from the home, and both children are safe with family.
