GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) – An Alpharetta woman who was looking for love instead became the victim of an alleged huckster, and police believe she’s not the only one who has been scammed.

The victim told police that she met 35-year-old John Martin Hill on in March.

During their short romance, police say Hill convinced his victim that they were in love and wanted to buy a house together.

“Within a week of knowing one another, they agreed to get married,” Gwinnett County police said in a statement.

The woman told police that she gave Hill more than $80,000 to use toward the purchase of a house and furniture, but he stopped talking to her after she sent him the money.

Hill, who police said has changed his name multiple times in the last three years and who is suspected of scamming more women in different states, now faces charges for theft by deception in Georgia.
